Unfortunate Tales of a Treeless World

MALAYSIAN NATURE SOCIETY

Once upon a time, Malaysia boasted one of the finest forests in the realm. As the greenery thrived, so too did the land’s subjects. Animals called these forests home. And our people forged livelihoods in them, with love and respect.

But time changed everything. Man started to take from the forests with wild abandon. We fell trees for timber unsustainably. We cleared the forests to make way for glass, concrete and steel. In fact, we have cleared more than half our natural rainforests, destroying the very thing that kept us alive and breathing.

Our story is fast approaching a tragic ending. Just as how classic fairytales depended on trees to live happily ever after,
so to does our tale in the real world. Because without trees, there can be no fairy tale endings.
